I like to use the end of the year as a reset—a chance to reflect, clear space, and welcome new opportunities.
Typically, I rely on a grid to map out areas for personal growth across different aspects of my life. But this year, I’m approaching things differently. I’ve chosen two key words to anchor my intentions for the year ahead, both personally and professionally: Notice and Trust.
Notice
So much of investing and early-stage building depends on seeing the world clearly. This year, I want to sharpen my ability to notice—to maintain a beginner’s mindset about where I invest my time, energy, and capital. The first step to developing intuition about the world is simply observing it.
Having an 18-month-old is a daily reminder of the power of noticing. Children notice everything, and their curiosity inspires me to stay present and open in each interaction. For me, building daily habits is essential to staying grounded in the present moment. My tools include a 20-minute morning walking meditation, saying no to unnecessary commitments, taking micro-breaks throughout the day, and spending plenty of time outdoors. These small but intentional habits help me stay present when it matters most. While they may reduce my working hours, they dramatically increase my productivity and focus during those hours.
Trust
With a stronger sense of noticing, I can deepen my intuition and trust my decisions more fully. For me, this means developing internal systems and frameworks to process and organize the insights I observe. My tools here include checklists, documenting learnings, and talking through ideas aloud. These practices help me build my "trust muscle" so I can make decisions with confidence and commit to them wholeheartedly.
I recently came across the phrase, “Go slow to go fast.” It resonates deeply. By anchoring my year with noticing and trust, I’m embracing this mindset for 2025—being deliberate and intentional now so I can move more effectively in the long run.
Does this inspire you to create your own words for 2025? I’d love to hear what anchors you in your journey.
